“No other chassis brand led a lap the entire weekend”
Ft. Lauderdale, FL – February 10, 2015 – In an unofficial tune-up event for rounds three and four of the Cold Stone Florida Winter Tour powered by MAXSpeed Entertainment, Team BENIK Kart traveled to Orlando, Florida to compete in the ROK Cup USA Dash for Cash. Taking place at the Orlando Kart Center and utilizing the same layout as the international series will two weeks later, BENIK Kart dominated to the Vortex Mini ROK category taking home the win with Lachlan DeFrancesco.
“It was a great testament to show how strong our BENIK program is in the Vortex Mini ROK class,” explained BENIK Kart Co-Founder Nick Mitchell. “Not another chassis brand led a single lap in the Mini ROK class throughout the weekend as our drivers dominated the field. We will now shift our focus to rounds three and four on the Florida Winter Tour where BENIK Kart leads that Mini ROK point standings.”
Lachlan DeFrancesco and Derek Carmenate would put on a show for the rest of the Mini ROK field, as they were the top two drivers throughout the weekend. Both fierce competitors were either first or second in every official on track session before Sunday’s main event. Swapping the top spot and their share of the lead race after race, the duo would enter the final as the favorites to claim victory and the $2000.00 cash prize that went along with it.
The two drivers would work together to draw away from the rest of the talented field of drivers to open a large gap on their nearest competitor. Taking turns at the point, the duo consistently turned fast lap after fast lap before the final two circuits. With no team orders, DeFrancesco and Carmenate would go wheel-to-wheel for several corners over the last couple of laps that would draw the rest of the field to their rear bumper. Making a bid for the lead on the last lap while the other defended his position, DeFrancesco would cross the line first while Carmenate struggled to keep momentum in the final pass attempt and would fall to the final step of the podium in the third position. Jeremy Fairbairn would also show his speed throughout the race weekend and will be back in two weeks time to throw his hat in the mix for the Vortex Mini ROK victory.
In the Vortex Micro ROK category, it was another BENIK driver at the front of the field as the young Chase Heffner continued his winning ways. Standing on the top step of the podium at the end of Sunday, Heffner added to his and BENIK’s results resume and pockets with two thousand dollars cash for his efforts.
Across the country Anthony Willis would fly the BENIK colors under the Nash Motorsports tent at the opening round of the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Tour in the new IAME Mini Swift TaG Cadet category. With 44 drivers in the field and seven aboard BENIK Karts, Willis would get the best of them all taking his first victory of the season.
With the second event weekend of the Cold Stone Florida Winter Tour just around the corner, Team BENIK Kart will enter eight drivers in the ROK Cup USA portion of the program. Six young and hungry competitors will see action in the Vortex Mini ROK class as DeFrancesco, Carmenate and Fairbairn will be joined by Jak Crawford and round two race winner Jonny Edgar from the UK. Wesley Mason, fellow UK driver and newcomer to Team BENIK, will join the squad for the Orlando rounds as he looks to add his name to the list of team accomplishments.
Keeping with the UK tradition, Oliver Denny will fly the British flag and BENIK colors in the Vortex Micro ROK class while Owen Byatt will enter the Vortex Junior ROK field.
